Calvary's Lighthouse was
founded by Rev. Ruth Garlanger and registered by the State of Michigan
as an Ecclesiastical Corporation on May 7, 1969. The congregation
first met at the YMCA in Benton Harbor for a short time, then at the
city library. Prior to beginning Calvary's Lighthouse, Reverend
Garlanger was a pastor in the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee
denomination for about fifteen years. As it was from its
beginning, Calvary's Lighthouse continues to be an independent,
non-denominational, full-gospel church.
In 1971, church bonds were sold to members of the
congregation and to the public and construction of the present church
building was begun. Construction proceeded slowly as
money became available through the sale
of additional bonds and from gifts from various
|
|
individuals over the next few years.
The building was sufficiently completed for occupancy in 1974 and the
first service was held in it. In 1975 the building was completed
inside and outside and the parking lot was constructed. The
parsonage was constructed in 1976 with generous help from members of the
congregation. In fact, most of the labor for the entire project
was supplied by members of the congregation and friends on a donation
basis.
Today, Calvary's Lighthouse Deliverance Center is
a
small yet diverse congregation of believers who are proclaiming the love
of God to a lost and lonely world.
