Calvary's Lighthouse Church was founded by Rev. Ruth Garlanger and registered by the State of Michigan as an Ecclesiastical Corportation on May 7, 1969. The congregation first met at the YMCA in Benton Hardbor for a short time, then at the city library. Prior to beginning Calvary's Lighthouse, Reverend Garlanger was a pastor in the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee denomination for about fifteen years. In 1971, church bonds were sold to members of the congregation and to the public and construction of the present church building was begun. Construction proceeded slowly as money became available through the sale of additional bonds and from gifts from various individuals over the next few years. The building was sufficiently completed for occupancy in 1974 and the first service was held in the newly finished sancturary. In 1975 the building was completed inside and outside and the parking lot was constructed. The parsonage was constructed in 1976 with gererous help from members of the congregation. In face, most of the labor for the entire project was supplied by members of the congregation and friends on a donation basis. As it was from it's beginning, Calvary's Lighthouse continues to be an independent, non-denominational, full-gospel church. We are a small congregation of believers who are proclaiming the love of God to a lost and lonely world. |
